The tanks are constructed from a linear low polyethylene membrane
laid on a compacted sand base. Inside the tank are specially constructed
void expanders that support the structure and are strong enough to
build over when the tank is completed. Once the tank is in place,
it is protected by an outer wrapping of geotextile mesh and buried
below ground level. The recycled water is returned to a dual water
system in the roof of the building for use.
The harvested rainwater can then be utilised in many ways for commercial
and domestic use including;
- Golf Course / Garden Watering
- Toilet flushing
- Car Washing
- Cooling
- Fire Fighting
There are major tax advantages to businesses having rainwater harvesting
equipment fitted as they can offset 100% of the cost of products
on the Water Technology List against corporation tax and income tax.
See www.eca-water.gov.uk for the full list. On top of this, rain
water Harvesting in commercial buildings can reduce water bills by
up to 70%.
